A townhouse unit sustained extensive damage during a fire on Christmas Day in Island Lake, fire officials said.

The Wauconda Fire District responded around 6:17 p.m. Friday to the 800 block of Canterbury Lane in Island Lake for a report of a structure fire.

Wauconda Fire District Battalion Chief Daniel Frey said firefighters arrived and found flames from the rear of the residence.

Fire crews pulled a hose line and extinguished the fire, which took around 16 minutes to control.

There was no one home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, Frey said.

There was extensive damage to the rear interior and exterior but the blaze was contained to the single unit.

Damage is estimated at approximately $100,000 and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Wauconda Fire District was assisted at the scene by Lake Zurich, Countryside, Barrington-Countryside, Nunda-Rural and Fox River Grove fire departments. Mundelein and Round Lake fire departments covered Wauconda’s calls during the fire.
