A 30-year-old man was hospitalized after he shot himself while attempting to clean a gun in Lake in the Hills Saturday afternoon.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department and Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 2:46 p.m. Saturday to the 4400 block of Barharbor Drive for a report of a gunshot victim.

Officers arrived and found a subject, identified as a 30-year-old man, who sustained a gunshot wound to his hand.

Lake in the Hills Police Department Communications Coordinator Ashley Eccles said that the man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Paramedics transported the man by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley for treatment of his injuries.

Eccles said that the man was cleaning his firearm at his residence when the gun discharged and struck him.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department is not bringing any citations or charges against the man.
