A Barrington man has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed a female passenger in his vehicle near Barrington Hills and then called 911 and confessed.
John H. Breseman, 50, of Barrington, was charged with one count of first-degree murder.
The Illinois State Police District 15 responded around 1:34 a.m. Friday to Barrington Road and Palatine Road near Barrington Hills for a shooting.
Multiple police departments also responded to assist state troopers, who learned that the incident involved a homicide.
A preliminary investigation showed Breseman was driving a pickup truck on the ramp from Interstate 90 westbound to Barrington Road in Cook County.
State police said that a woman, identified as Christina Czuj, 54, of Sleepy Hollow, was in the passenger seat of the truck that Breseman was driving.
Breseman allegedly shot the woman while they were having an argument and continued driving before he eventually stopped at Barrington Road and Palatine Road near Barrington Hills.
Breseman called 911 and admitted to shooting Czuj. Paramedics from the Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
State troopers arrested Breseman without incident and detectives began an investigation.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the murder charge the following day after multiple search warrants were executed and an autopsy on Czuj was completed.
Breseman is being held in the Cook County Jail while awaiting a bond hearing.
