Police are searching for three young suspects, who were armed with a rifle and a pistol, that robbed a Super 8 hotel in Gurnee early Monday morning.

The Gurnee Police Department responded around 4:52 a.m. Monday to the Super 8 Hotel, 5520 Grand Avenue in Gurnee, for a report of an armed robbery.

Officers arrived and learned that three suspects, one who was armed with a rifle and another who was armed with a pistol, entered the lobby of the hotel.

Gurnee Police Department Officer Shawn Gaylor told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the suspects demanded money from the front desk clerk.

The clerk handed over approximately $200 in cash and the suspects fled the scene in a possibly newer model dark four-door sedan, Gaylor said.

The three suspects were described as Black males with dark hoodies. No injuries were reported.

Gaylor said the surveillance cameras were low quality but detectives believe all three suspects were under the age of 20.

The incident remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 847-599-7040.
