The community is mourning the loss of a Glenbrook North High School football quarterback who died Thursday afternoon at a hotel in Deerfield.

The Northbrook Fire Department and Deerfield Police Department responded around 3 p.m. Thursday to the Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago, 1445 Lake Cook Road.

Emergency crews responded to a 911 call of a “long fall from a balcony” at the hotel, according to the initial radio traffic.

Paramedics found Dylan Buckner, 18, of Northbrook, with traumatic injuries and pronounced him dead on the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and said the cause of Buckner’s death is under investigation.

Buckner was a senior at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, according to a statement from the school. He was the captain and quarterback of the football team.

“It is with deep sadness that I share news of the tragic and sudden loss of GBN Senior Dylan Buckner,” Glenbrook North High School Principal Jason Markey said.

“This is a profound loss for our entire school community and our hearts go out to all of Dylan’s family and friends,” Markey said in the statement. “These are the times when we need to reach out, check in, and ensure that we are caring for one another.”

Counselors are available at the school Friday and will continue to be available for “any time in the future to assist any student during this challenging time,” Markey said.

The Deerfield Police Department has not released any information on the incident. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.
