Cristian Villareal, 27, of Harvard.

A Harvard man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 in August, court records show.

Cristian Villareal, 27, of the 1300 block of Primrose Lane in Harvard, was charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County court alleges Villareal committed an act of sexual conduct with a female juvenile, who was under 13, on August 30.

It is unknown how Villareal knew the victim or where the assault occurred. The Harvard Police Department conducted an investigation into the incident.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on December 30 from a McHenry County judge. Villareal was arrested on Wednesday, according to jail records.

Bond was set at $750,000, meaning he will need to post $75,000 cash in order to be released from jail.

A judge barred Villareal from having any contact with the victim or her residence. If he is able to post bail, he will be required to surrender all firearms to the Harvard Police Department.

Villareal will appear in court on Monday for a bond hearing and to set the date of a preliminary hearing.
