A 5-year-old child was flown to the hospital for precautionary measures after being shot in the chest with a BB gun in Woodstock.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Woodstock Police Department responded around 12:10 p.m. Saturday to the 1400 block of Commons Drive for a report of a person injured.

Emergency crews located a juvenile victim who sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot by a BB gun, according to the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.

According to preliminary police radio traffic, the juvenile is 5 years old and was shot in the chest area.

A LifeNet medical helicopter landed at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock where the child was transferred from an ambulance to the helicopter.

The juvenile was airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for precautionary measures.

“The District may not comment on the isolated incident or disclose patient information. Any questions regarding the incident circumstances or investigation should be referred to the Woodstock Police Department,” the fire district said in a statement.

The Woodstock Police Department has not released any information on the incident.
