One teen was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and a second teen was seriously injured following an inner tube accident involving an ATV in Lake Villa.

The Lake Villa Fire Protection District and Lake Villa Police Department responded around 1:14 p.m. Sunday to the 100 block of Fieldstone Drive for an ATV accident.

First responders located two teenage victims in the backyard of the residence. One victim had a life-threatening injury and was unconscious, according to Lake Villa Police Lt. James DeCaro.

Witnesses told police that two teenagers were being pulled on an inner tube by a four-wheeled ATV in the backyard of the home.

As the ATV was pulling the inner tube through the snow, the inner tube slid into a tree and both victims were ejected from the tube into the trees, DeCaro said.

One of the victims suffered serious injuries and one of them was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by a LifeNet medical helicopter.

The second victim was ground transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

Due to the seriousness of the accident, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was notified and responded to assist.

The operator of the ATV is cooperating with police and no charges are expected to be filed, DeCaro said. Police continue to investigate the incident.
