Security footage captured a man armed with a gun burglarizing a car at a Fox River Grove home. Police say the man was part of multiple suspects who committed similar crimes in nearby towns.

The Fox River Grove Police Department released surveillance camera footage on Monday showing the incident.

The video shows a car pull up in front of a home in a neighborhood on the east side of Fox River Grove around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

A masked male suspect, who was holding a handgun, exited the front passenger seat of the car and walked up the driveway.

The man opened the door of a parked SUV in the driveway and briefly sat in the driver’s seat for approximately 30 seconds. He then exited and returned to the waiting suspect vehicle, which then fled the scene.

Police believe there were three cars containing suspects who were committing these crimes in the Fox River Grove, Cary and Lake Barrington area.

“Residents have been very helpful in providing information and timelines based on home security cameras,” Waitrovich told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.

“Our biggest concern is that one of the videos appears to show a suspect holding what appears to be a handgun,” he added.

The armed suspect seen in the video committed numerous other burglaries in Fox River Grove and surrounding towns, police said.

Police are reminding residents not to leave valuables in plain sight inside their cars, lock their parked vehicles, and always close their garage doors at night.
