Federal prosecutors have charged a Beach Park man in connection with a ‘violent’ attempted armed carjacking of a woman at a Glencoe golf course over the summer.
Zayveon T. Thomas, 19, of Beach Park, was charged in U.S. District Court Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division with one count of attempted carjacking.
Thomas was among two other men involved in the crime on July 2 at the Glencoe Golf Club.
A grand jury indictment alleged that Thomas attempted to hijack a 2018 Lexus IS300 sedan by force, threat and intimidation from a woman in the parking lot of the club.
The carjacking failed when the woman screamed for help and the three suspects, including Thomas, ran away on foot. The two other suspects have not been arrested yet.
A gun was also used in the incident.
Thomas is currently held in the Cook County Jail and faces up to 15 years in federal prison if convicted. An arraignment hearing in federal court in Chicago has not been scheduled yet.
According to Lake County court records, Thomas also faces charges in a vehicular carjacking on June 30 in Waukegan. A warrant was issued for his arrest in that case on July 8.
