Police are searching for a vehicle that struck a man in Round Lake Beach and left him to die Saturday morning, officials said.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 6:34 a.m. Saturday to Route 83 and Fox Chase Drive.
Dispatchers received a 911 call to check on the well-being of a person found lying in a ditch line on Route 83 near the intersection, police said.
Officers arrived and located an unresponsive male on the west side of the roadway with several pieces of vehicle debris around him.
Paramedics from Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene a short time later.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to assist the Round Lake Beach Police Department with the investigation.
Police said they believe a vehicle struck the man and fled the scene. It is unknown what type of vehicle was involved.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office also responded and has scheduled an autopsy on the man for Monday.
