A GoFundMe started for a family of four who lost everything in a house fire in Fox Lake has raised several thousand dollars.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 8:56 a.m. Friday to the 100 block of Forest Avenue for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke coming from a single-story single-family home.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the second alarm level, which brought in additional firefighters and equipment to help fight the blaze.
A GoFundMe account, started by Round Lake Beach resident Ilene Winston Cori Andrews, has already raised nearly $4,000 as of Sunday.
“As a lot of friends and family have heard. Ashley and Cole and their 2 beautiful little girls (ages 4 and 6) lost everything today in a house fire in Fox Lake,” Andrews said.
The family lost all of their clothes, furniture and kid’s toys in the fire that destroyed their home.
“Everything they owned was in the house at the time of the fire. The money from this fundraiser would be used to help them find a new home, clothes, furniture and toys for themselves and their children,” Andrews said.
“We understand times are hard right now but anything, any help would be greatly appreciated. They are an amazing family and they work hard for everything they have! Let’s help them come back from this tragedy!” she added.
No injuries were reported and it is unclear what caused the fire. A damage cost estimate was not immediately available.
