Firefighters rescued a family dog from a Wadsworth house on Thursday after the home’s garage went up in flames, fire officials said.

The Newport Township Fire Protection District responded around 3 p.m. Thursday to the 13300 block of West Wadsworth Road in Wadsworth for a report of a structure fire.

Multiple passersby called 911 to report there was an attached garage on fire with flames and smoke coming from it.

Firefighters arrived and confirmed a garage attached to a home was fully involved in fire.

No one was home at the time of the fire but a family dog was located inside the house by firefighters, who brought the dog to safety.

Numerous fire trucks carrying water were called to the scene to haul in water because there are no fire hydrants in the area.

Wadsworth Road was closed in both directions between Green Bay Road and Delany Road as crews fought the fire.

“The crews did a great job of stopping the fire with only minor damage to the house,” fire officials said.
