A gunman who shot a 47-year-old woman multiple times, killing her in North Chicago Monday evening, has been taken into custody, police said.
The North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded around 6:40 p.m. Monday to the 0-100 block of Prairie View Court in North Chicago for a report of a shooting.
Police officers arrived at the scene and located a 47-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Lake County Major Crime Task Force Spokesman Christopher Covelli.
The woman, who resided at the apartment complex, was transported to an area hospital by ambulance where she was later pronounced dead.
A 48-year-old man, who also lives at the apartment complex, was taken into custody at the scene.
Covelli said that the man is suspected of shooting the woman. Charges are likely to be filed Tuesday.
Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that investigators determined the gunman and victim were previously in a relationship with each other.
The North Chicago Police Department requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
Investigators do not believe anyone else was involved in the shooting and no one else was injured.
The investigation continues by North Chicago police detectives and Lake County Major Crime Task Force investigators.
