Police and fire officials are asking the public for information after a barn was burned to the ground in Wadsworth on Wednesday and believed to be arson-related.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Newport Fire Protection District responded around 9 p.m. Wednesday to the 14700 block of West Kazmer Road in Wadsworth for a report of a structure fire.

Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters arrived and found a barn fully engulfed in flames, according to the sheriff’s office and fire district.

Firefighters worked defensively to extinguish the fire and determined there were no occupants inside the barn, the fire district said.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the barn was abandoned and had no power running to it.

There was also a suspicious vehicle seen in the area around the time of the fire, Covelli said. Detectives are investigating it as a possible arson.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is working with Newport Fire Protection District to investigate the blaze. Nobody was injured in the fire.
