Authorities have identified a Waukegan man and Hainesville man, who were both 23 years old, that died Saturday following a high-speed crash near Lindenhurst.

Silvano Aldana-Macias, 23, of Waukegan, and Gerardo Cruz, 23, of Hainesville, both died from blunt trauma as a result of a crash, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The autopsies were performed Monday morning and toxicology tests are pending on both men, Banek said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 9:30 p.m. Saturday to Stearns School Road and Route 45 in Warren Township for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a 2009 Audi TTS sedan with extreme damage, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli.

A preliminary investigation shows the Audi, driven by Aldana-Macias, was traveling westbound on Stearns School Road at a high rate of speed.

Aldana-Macias lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail on the north side of the roadway, Covelli said.

Cruz, who was in the passenger seat, was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected during the crash.

Aldana-Macias and Cruz both sustained major injuries and were transported by ambulances to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Both men were pronounced dead and the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified.

Eastbound Stearns School Road was blocked at Route 45 and Stearns School Road westbound at Hutchins Road was also blocked for several hours during the incident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
