A reckless driver who slammed into a utility pole and ran from the scene on foot in Round Lake Beach was arrested Tuesday, officials said.
Jacob T. Hetz, 26, of the 1300 block of Oeffling Drive in Johnsburg, was charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, driving while license suspended and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 10:03 a.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Hainesville Road and Clarendon Drive.
Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Wayne Wilde told Lake and McHenry County Scanner officers received a call for a crash involving a single vehicle.
The vehicle, driven by Hetz, was traveling recklessly and collided with a utility pole, Wilde said.
Witnesses told police that Hetz ran from the scene northbound on Hainesville Road towards the McDonald’s restaurant.
Officers located the man near the Meijer grocery store, 750 East Rollins Road, a short time later. He was treated by paramedics for very minor injuries, Wilde said.
Hainesville Road was closed for several hours Monday while ComEd responded and repaired the utility pole, which was damaged and falling over.
Court information for Hetz’s case was not immediately available. He was released from custody after posting bail.
