U.S. Marshals and sheriff’s deputies arrested a Cary man for possessing over a dozen images or videos of child pornography following an investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Donald J. Schroeder, 32, of the 2400 block of Oakdale Terrace in unincorporated Cary, was charged with 15 counts of possession of child pornography, a Class 3 felony.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) launched an investigation in February 2020.
Schroeder was subsequently identified as a suspect who resided in the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction.
Evidence was collected from a search warrant and probable cause was established to arrest Schroeder for possessing the illegal material.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force executed an arrest warrant on Thursday at the man’s house on Oakdale Terrace in Cary.
Police did not release any additional information on the case but did say that the investigation remains ongoing.

Schroeder is scheduled to appear in court on Friday for a bond hearing, court records show.
