Skylar Gustafson, 22, of Rockford.

A drunk driver who crashed her car last weekend in Marengo was arrested after she punched an officer in the face and then kicked another in the groin, leg and arm, officials said.

Skylar Gustafson, 22, of the 2900 block of 20th Street in Rockford, was charged with five counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two counts of resisting a peace officer and one count of driving under the influence.

The Marengo Police Department responded around 12:30 a.m. Saturday to Ford Street and Prairie Street for a report of an unknown disturbance involving a subject yelling and a honking car horn.

Marengo Police Department Sgt. Andrew Kjellgren said that officers were also notified that a vehicle was possibly stuck in a ditch.

When officers arrived, they made contact with Gustafson, who was driving a vehicle that had driven over the railroad tracks at a pedestrian crossing.

Gustafson became aggressive and hit a squad car with her hands. Kjellgren said that officers attempted to control the woman and she struck an officer in the face with her hand.

Kjellgren said that Gustafson also spit on an officer and kicked another officer in the arm, leg and groin.

Gustafson was taken into custody and in addition to her charges, she was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Gustafson was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock where she grabbed the vest of a security officer and pushed and held the vest against his neck.

She was later transported to the McHenry County Jail where she was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond. Gustafson is scheduled to appear in court on April 12.
