A North Chicago woman and a Chicago man were arrested police found 400 grams of marijuana individually packaged and almost $3,000 in cash during a traffic stop in Fox Lake.

Anthony Deshazor, 31, of the 10000 block of South May Street in Chicago, was charged with manufacturing and delivery of cannabis and possession of cannabis less than 500 grams.

Maribel Gonzalez, 28, of the 1000 block of Elizabeth Avenue in North Chicago, was charged with manufacturing and delivery of cannabis, possession of cannabis less than 500 grams, speeding, operating a vehicle without proof of insurance and driving while license revoked.

The Fox Lake Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle on Monday, according to Fox Lake Police Chief Jimmy Lee.

Lee said that officers detected a strong odor of fresh cannabis coming from the vehicle.

A subsequent investigation and search of the vehicle led to approximately 400 grams of cannabis being seized by police.

The cannabis was individually packaged in smaller amounts and was in commercially available packaging designed to look like it may have been purchased at a cannabis dispensary, Lee said.

Officers also seized $2,875 of cash pending a seizure hearing. Gonzalez was the driver and Deshazor was in the passenger seat.

Both were arrested and on Tuesday they appeared in Lake County bond court where a judge ordered them held in the Lake County Jail on a $20,000 bond each.

Gonzalez and Deshazor have since posted $2,000 bail and been released from the jail.
