Two men have been arrested and charged with shooting and killing a Joliet man at the Motel 6 in Waukegan last August, according to police and court records.
Darius Kirby, 31, of Riverdale, and Shava Jackson-Spicer, 26, of Joliet, were both charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
The Calumet Park Police Department arrested Kirby on March 17. Waukegan police detectives located Jackson-Spicer on March 18 in Joliet and took him into custody.
Warrants were issued for both suspects several days before they were taken into custody.
The two are accused of shooting and killing Jerry L. Reid Jr., 32, of Joliet, on August 26.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded to the shooting, which occurred at Motel 6, 31 North Green Bay Road.
Waukegan Police Commander Joe Florip said at the time that shots were fired and officers located a male victim, identified as Reid, who was shot.
Reid was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, Florip said.
Waukegan Police Commander Edgar Navarro announced the two suspects’ arrest on Friday. Navarro did not say how detectives linked the two men as the suspects.
Kirby and Jackson-Spicer are both being held in the Lake County Jail on a $2 million bond each. They are scheduled to appear in court on April 20.
