Police say three gunmen fired around three dozen shots into a park next to a school on Saturday in Beach Park while several people were having a picnic and playing soccer.

The Lake County Sheriffโ€™s Office said they are investigating the shooting which occurred at Founders Park, 10385 West Beach Road in Beach Park.

It happened around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday evening in the parking lot of the park, which is behind Howe Elementary School.

Sheriff’s deputies responded after receiving multiple 911 calls from people at the park.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that at least three gunmen arrived in two separate vehicles.

The three gunmen, described as male Blacks in their 20s, opened fire on the park as people were having a barbecue picnic and others were playing soccer.

One person who was sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot sustained non-gunshot injuries due to shattered glass.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No one else reported any injuries.

Covelli said it was not immediately known if the shooters were targetting a specific person at the park or not.

Detectives recovered approximately three dozen shell casings, Covelli said, adding that sheriff’s detectives are actively investigating the incident.
