Police say a female driver failed to yield while turning at a light, causing a multiple-vehicle crash that left a Jeep rolled over near Crystal Lake Wednesday morning.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday to Crystal Lake Avenue and Route 31 for a vehicle crash with injuries.
McHenry County Sheriff Spokesman Tim Creighton said a blue 2020 BMW sedan was facing southbound on Route 31 at the intersection.
The BMW, driven by an 84-year-old Crystal Lake woman, attempted to turn left on a green light onto eastbound Crystal Lake Avenue.
The BMW was struck by an orange 2012 Jeep Wrangler as it was traveling northbound on Route 31 at the intersection, Creighton said.
The Jeep, driven by a 22-year-old Fox River Grove man, rolled over onto its roof and struck a 2015 Toyota sedan that was stopped facing westbound on Crystal Lake Avenue at the red light.
The driver of the Toyota, a 63-year-old Crystal Lake woman, along with the driver of the BMW were both treated at the scene but did not need transport to the hospital.
Paramedics transported the male driver of the Jeep to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the BMW was cited for failure to yield turning left, Creighton said, adding that alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
