The largest mass COVID-19 vaccination site in Lake County — capable of up to 5,000 vaccinations a day — will open at the former Kmart building in Round Lake Beach next week, health officials announced.

The Lake County Health Department and partners Baxter and Curative announced on Monday that the new site will open on April 20.

It will be located at the former Kmart Supercenter building at 400 East Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach.

The indoor COVID-19 vaccinations will be by appointment only to all people who live or work in Lake County and are ages 16 and older. The vaccine is free of charge to everyone.

The health department said that the site will be the largest vaccination site in the county once vaccine supply allows the facility to reach its peak.

“We are thrilled to announce this location for COVID-19 vaccinations, a culmination of extensive planning and collaboration with our partners,” said Mark Pfister, Executive Director at the Lake County Health Department.

“This site will improve access for those who live and work in Lake County to receive a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine, the best tool we have to protect our families and communities,” Pfister said.

The site will run Tuesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those interested can schedule appointments online at curative.com/sites/27883 once they are released.

“Baxter is committed to saving and sustaining lives – worldwide and here in Lake County, home to our headquarters and facilities that provide critical manufacturing and research and development,” said Sumant Ramachandra, President of Pharmaceuticals and Senior Vice President, Chief Science and Technology Officer at Baxter.

“We are proud to work with local partners to increase availability of COVID-19 vaccinations in the community, and will continue doing everything we can to support our employees, patients, the healthcare system, and the communities we serve to help end this global pandemic,” Ramachandra said.

People who are registered in Lake County’s COVID-19 vaccination portal AllVax and opted in to share their registration information with vaccination partners may also be contacted by Curative to schedule an appointment at the Round Lake Beach site.

“It’s an honor for Curative to deliver vaccination deployment in the Lake County community. This is a significant moment in history, and we are ready to bring these life-saving vaccines to people who need them,” said Isaac Turner, CIO and co-founder of Curative.

“Curative has disrupted the traditional healthcare delivery system by rapidly scaling COVID-19 testing at thousands of sites across the country in a matter of months and administering the flu vaccine—now, we are eager to put our proven model to work for the COVID-19 vaccine,” Turner said.
