A male was struck and killed by a Metra train early Tuesday morning near Round Lake Park. It’s the second time in a week a train struck a pedestrian in the area.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Police Department responded around 12:02 a.m. Tuesday to Route 134 and Macgillis Drive for a report of a train that struck a pedestrian.
Emergency crews searched the area and located a Metra train a short time later stopped on Route 134 near Fairlawn Drive on the border of Round Lake Park and Hainesville.
Paramedics pronounced a male victim dead at the scene after he had apparently been struck by the train, Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said.
Metra reported that Train #2157, which was scheduled to arrive Fox Lake at 12:12 a.m., had struck the pedestrian and the train was halted on the Milwaukee District north line.
The incident caused some outbound Chicago Metra trains to experience extensive delays.
The Metra Police Department was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene and has scheduled an autopsy on the victim.
On April 7, a man was struck and killed by a freight train one mile west of this latest incident near Route 134 near Hart Road in Round Lake. That man was identified as Kirk Stateler, 48, of Ingleside.
Both deaths remain under investigation by the Lake County Coroner’s Office and Metra Police Department.
