Police are searching for a man and woman linked to multiple burglaries at businesses in southwest McHenry County where slot machines were the targets. A $10,000 reward has been offered in the case.
The Marengo Police Department said they responded in the early hours on Saturday to burglaries at two local businesses.
The first one occurred at Miss Kitty’s Saloon, 1101 East Grant Highway in Marengo, and the second at La’s Cafe, 20001 Telegraph Street in Marengo.
Marengo Police Sgt. Adam Boyce said there are at least two suspects and both burglaries are believed to be linked.
Marengo Police Sgt. Andrew Kjellgren said that the two suspects took an undisclosed amount of money.
Boyce said the two suspects are also believed to be the ones who committed a third burglary at Clasen’s Tavern, 17628 Depot Street in Union, which is east of Marengo.
The Clasen’s Tavern break-in occurred around 5:15 a.m. Saturday. In that case, the bar said in a Facebook post that the male suspect and female suspect broke into the business while it was closed.
The male suspect used what appeared to be a hammer and another tool in an attempt to pry open multiple slot machines, surveillance video showed.
The man can be seen handing over the money from one machine to the woman, who then quickly put it into a backpack.
According to the video shared by Clasen’s Tavern, the burglary spanned approximately three minutes.
The Union Police Department is investigating and anyone with information is asked to call them at 815-923-2341.
