Schools and businesses were placed on lockdown Friday morning after a gunman tried robbing a customer in the drive-thru of a Libertyville bank.
The Libertyville Police Department responded around 9:46 a.m. Friday to the BMO Harris Bank, 354 North Milwaukee Avenue, for a report of an attempted armed robbery that had just occurred.
Libertyville Police Department Lt. Matt Goze said that a male offender approached a vehicle in the bank’s drive-thru lane.
The offender brandished a handgun and attempted to take a bank deposit from the driver of the vehicle as they were in line.
The suspect was unsuccessful in taking the bank deposit and fled the scene, Goze said. He was last seen walking southbound from the area on foot.
The victim was uninjured. Area schools and some businesses were placed on a soft lockdown during the initial investigation, Goze said.
Police described the offender as being 20-30 years of age, under six feet tall, approximately 160 pounds, with a darker complexion.
The offender was last seen wearing a red shirt or sweatshirt, dark pants, a baseball hat and glasses.
A Lake County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit was sent to the area to assist in the search. The investigation is ongoing, Goze said.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call the Libertyville Police Departmentโs non-emergency number at 847-362-8310.
