A Harvard man who was carrying a child and dropped the kid onto the concrete while running from the police has been sentenced to 10 days in jail.
Eloy A. Salazar, 22, of the 200 block of West Harrison Street in Harvard, was charged with one count of causing a child to be endangered and resisting a peace officer.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said that the incident occurred on March 7, 2020.
Salazar ran from Harvard police officers to avoid being arrested for outstanding arrest warrants, the complaint said.
Salazar, who was holding a child under the age of 18, dropped the child onto the ground and continued running away despite the child lying on the concrete, the complaint said.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office recently reached a negotiated plea deal with Salazar.
Salazar pleaded guilty to causing a child to be endangered in exchange for prosecutors dismissing his resisting a peace officer charge, court records show.
As a result, Salazar was sentenced to 10 days in the county jail, one year of conditional discharge and will be required to pay $589 for court fines and fees.
Salazar will be released from the McHenry County Jail on May 6.
