At least six ambulances were called to the scene of a crash that involved eight vehicles and left some people trapped in their cars Saturday in Riverwoods.
The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District and Riverwoods Police Department responded around 12 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Deerfield Road in Riverwoods.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes of Milwaukee Avenue just north of Deerfield Road.
Emergency crews arrived to find multiple cars involved, several of them scattered out and off the roadway, and later determined eight vehicles were involved in total.
A witness reported that one of the vehicles, a van, rolled over multiple times during the collision.
Multiple people were reportedly injured and at least one person was trapped in their vehicle, according to preliminary fire department radio traffic.
Police closed both northbound and southbound lanes of Milwaukee Avenue. The Buffalo Grove Police Department assisted with traffic control.
The Riverwoods Police Department has not yet released any information on the incident.
It is unclear how many victims were transported to the hospital or the extent of their injuries.
