A garage burned to the ground and spread to two homes, leaving one uninhabitable, Saturday afternoon in Wonder Lake, fire officials said.

The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4:30 p.m. Saturday to the 2900 block of East Chestnut Drive for a report of a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find an approximately 30-foot by 30-foot garage on fire which had two boats, two cars and motorcycles inside it.

Wonder Lake Fire Protection District Mike Weber said the burning garage, which was not attached to the home, quickly spread to the home.

While crews were fighting the blaze, a tree caught fire and a branch from it fell down on a nearby house, catching that home on fire as well.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to bring additional firefighters and equipment to the scene.

No injuries were reported and the first home that caught fire was deemed uninhabitable, while the second home that caught fire was deemed habitable.
