Fire officials are urging the public to pay attention after drivers nearly struck fire apparatus six different times at the scene of a crash in Lake Barrington on Monday.

The Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle crash with injuries at Route 22 and Kelsey Road in Lake Barrington on Monday.

The Barrington-Countryside Fire Protection District said that they had many situations where drivers were not paying attention near the scene.

Some drivers tried to drive through the crash scene where emergency crews were working, officials said.

“We also had many occurrences of drivers not paying attention to the direction of traffic and almost hitting our rigs,” the fire protection district said.

The fire protection district added that their fire apparatus were almost hit over half a dozen times because drivers were not watching where they were going.

Fire officials are asking drivers to slow down and pay attention for the safety of firefighters, police officers, victims and tow truck drivers.

“We utilize our rigs to provide a safe working area for us, the police department, the people involved, and our tow truck drivers and we are sorry to close lanes down, but it is absolutely necessary for everyone’s safety.”
