A man who was driving on a suspended license and crashed his car through a Woodstock convenience store, seriously injuring a female customer inside, has been charged with driving under the influence.

Jose L. Urbina, 34, of the 300 block of Ridgeland Avenue West in Woodstock, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence on a suspended license, aggravated driving under the influence causing a bodily harm accident, and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Woodstock Police Department responded around 6:58 p.m. Friday to the Woodstock Food Mart, 1013 North Route 47 in Woodstock.

Dispatchers received a call of a single-vehicle crash with injuries and a report of a person trapped, according to the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.

Firefighters arrived and found a blue 2014 Buick SUV, driven by Urbina, that had crashed into the convenience store, heavily damaging the storefront.

Fire crews quickly assessed the scene and located an injured female patron inside the store amongst the rubble, fire officials said.

The female victim was airlifted by a LifeNet medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious condition.

The vehicle was occupied by Urbina, who was the only person in the car. He was uninjured in the crash and declined medical attention at the scene.

Police officers arrested Urbina at the scene and transported him to the McHenry County Jail where he remains held on a $15,000 bond.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges that Urbina was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

He was also driving on a driver’s license that was suspended due to a previous DUI case, the complaint said, adding that the female victim sustained great bodily harm.
