A 25-year-old man was ejected and seriously injured after he reportedly drove at a high speed on his motorcycle and crashed into a car in Long Grove Saturday morning, police said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 8:30 a.m. Saturday to Route 83 and Endwood Drive in Long Grove for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries involving a motorcycle.
Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli said that sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a Honda Accord and motorcycle involved.
Deputies found the operator of the motorcycle, a 25-year-old Hawthorn Woods man, had been ejected and sustained significant injuries.
A preliminary investigation shows the motorcycle operator was traveling northbound on Route 83 at a high rate of speed.
Witnesses reported the motorcyclist was driving recklessly and weaving in and out of traffic, Covelli said.
As the motorcyclist approached Endwood Drive, he struck the rear-end of a northbound Honda Accord, driven by a 72-year-old Prospect Heights man.
The motorcycle operator, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected and sustained serious injuries, Covelli said.
The motorcyclist was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital.
Northbound Route 83 was closed at Gilmer Road due to the incident but has since been reopened. Covelli said that citations for the driver of the motorcycle are pending.
