A Crystal Lake man was arrested for possessing child pornography photos and videos of kids younger than 13 years old, according to court documents.

Matthew D. Knop, 26, of the 300 block of Kingsport Court in Crystal Lake, was charged with six counts of child pornography. Five of the counts are Class 2 felonies while one of the counts is a Class 1 felony.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges that Knop was found in possession of a short video of a child under the age of 13 who was being sexually assaulted by an adult man.

Authorities also found two photographs in Knop’s possession that showed a child under the age of 13 being sexually assaulted by an adult man.

Three other photographs were also recovered in the man’s possession that showed children in a lewd display, the complaint said.

The case was investigated by detectives with the Crystal Lake Police Department.

An arrest warrant was obtained and signed by a McHenry County judge on Wednesday.

Officers with the Crystal Lake Police Department served the warrant the same day it was issued and Knop was ordered held on a $60,000 bond.

He was released from police custody the same day of his arrest after someone posted $6,000 cash for his bond, court documents show.

A hearing to set the date for a preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place on June 8.
