An arrest warrant has been issued for a former employee of a Woodstock law firm accused of writing nearly 100 checks to herself in order to steal over $26,000 in cash from the firm.
Tracy R. Tures, 35, of the 500 block of East Grant Highway in Marengo, was charged with one count of theft between $10,000 and $100,000, a Class 2 felony, and one count of forgery, a Class 3 felony.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges that Tures defrauded Michling Plaza and Associates, located at 101 North Throop Street in Woodstock.
Tures allegedly committed forgery by writing out 99 separate checks payable to herself from the law firm’s bank account, the complaint said.
The total amount of money stolen from the firm was approximately $26,943. The theft occurred from January 2020 to March 2021.
A now-deleted listing online showed that Tures was a legal assistant at Michling Plaza and Associates.
The case was investigated by the Woodstock Police Department and an arrest warrant was issued on May 11, court records show.
A judge set bond on the warrant at $50,000. Tures will have to post $5,000 cash to be released once she is in custody.
A court hearing to check the status of the warrant is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
