Authorities say a man attacked his elderly father and strangled him, causing multiple injuries to the victim, on Friday in Crystal Lake.
Joseph W. Stoneburner, 30, who is listed as homeless in Crystal Lake, was charged with aggravated battery to a victim over 60 and two counts of domestic battery.
According to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court, Stoneburner struck his father on the head, face and chest on Friday.
The complaint said that Stoneburner used a metal clipboard to strike the victim, who is nearly 70 years old. Stoneburner then strangled the victim, the complaint added.
The victim sustained red marks to his chest, a bloody mouth and nose, lacerations to his forehead, a black eye, and a bruise to his left cheek.
The incident occurred in Crystal Lake and officers with the Crystal Lake Police Department arrested Stoneburner the same day of the attack.
Stoneburner remains held in the McHenry County Jail on a $50,000 bond. He would need to post $5,000 cash in order to be released.
A bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 3, court records show.
