A 66-year-old employee died Tuesday following an industrial accident where he fell 20 feet from a lift at an Antioch warehouse, authorities said.

The Antioch Fire Department and Antioch Police Department responded around 6:37 p.m. Tuesday to Handi-foil, 1 Handi Foil Drive in Antioch, for a report of an injured person.

Paramedics found an employee who sustained critical injuries, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he died from his injuries in the emergency room.

Police and the Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the hospital and the scene to conduct a death investigation.

An initial investigation found that the employee, identified as Jose Perez-Rodriguez, had fallen approximately 20 feet from a lift in the warehouse area of the business, the coroner’s office said

Perez-Rodriguez was 66 years old and a Waukegan resident, the coroner’s office said.

According to Handi-foil’s website, the company is a privately owned manufacturer of recyclable aluminum products.

An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday on Perez-Rodriguez and the preliminary results confirmed that he died from multiple blunt force injuries as a result of the fall, the coroner’s office said.

The investigation into his death is ongoing by the Lake County Coroner’s Office and Antioch Police Department.
