A man who was shot in 2017 near Round Lake when he was 17 years old died Thursday from complications of his injuries, the medical examiner said.

Eduardo Llanos, 21, of Round Lake Heights, was shot at Norelius Avenue and North Thompson Street in unincorporated Round Lake on August 23, 2017.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene following 911 calls of shots fired in the area.

Deputies learned that Llanos, who was 17 years old at the time, drove himself to Advocate Condell Acute Care Center, 2 East Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach, after the shooting.

Paramedics then transported him to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli said on Friday that the shooting was gang-related and retaliation.

Detectives identified the suspects following the incident but no charges have been filed. The case remains open.

Llanos was severely disabled following the shooting, Covelli said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said that Llanos died Thursday morning in Northbrook.

The medical examiner’s office said that the exact cause and manner of death is pending but their office attributed Llanos’s death to the 2017 shooting.
