A woman was transported to the hospital after an SUV crashed into a Pace bus on Route 14 near Woodstock, causing the bus to drive off into a cornfield, police said.
The Woodstock Fire-Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:01 a.m. Wednesday to Route 14 and Hartland Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a vehicle crash with injuries.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Byrnes said a red 2006 Honda CR-V was traveling southbound on Hartland Road stopped at Route 14.
The driver of the Honda, identified as Ashley Heer, 32, of Wonder Lake, failed to yield at the intersection to a 2014 Ford Pace bus, Byrnes said.
The Pace bus was traveling northbound on Route 14 and had the right away when the Honda pulled out in front of it.
The Pace bus came to a rest about 100 feet into a cornfield following the collision. The Pace bus was not carrying any passengers and its driver was uninjured.
Heer, who was the sole occupant of the Honda, was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley, according to the Woodstock Fire-Rescue District.
Byrnes said that Heer was issued a citation for failure to yield at a stop intersection. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
The fire district said that Route 14 was closed in both directions for 35 minutes.
