Police say a vehicle swerved off the road and struck a man walking on the shoulder of Route 59 in Ingleside, leaving him with major injuries Thursday evening.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 6:40 p.m. Thursday to Route 59 and Stanton Point Road in Ingleside.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a black Chrysler 300 that had struck and critically injured a 53-year-old Ingleside man, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli.

A preliminary investigation shows the Chrysler, driven by a 39-year-old Ingleside man, was traveling eastbound on Route 59 in the area of Stanton Point Road.

The Chrysler struck the pedestrian and the pedestrian sustained major injuries as a result, Covelli said.

The 53-year-old man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition. The driver of the Chrysler was uninjured.

Sheriff’s office traffic crash investigators continue to investigate and are working to determine if impairment or distraction were factors in the crash, Covelli said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
