A Highland Park man was arrested after police, with the assistance of Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office Canine Browser, found him in possession of child pornography.
Steven E. Habay, 47, of the 1500 block of Lancelot Avenue in Highland Park, was charged with one count of child pornography, a Class X felony, and two counts of child pornography, a Class 3 felony.
The Highland Park Police Department said they obtained a search warrant for electronic devices in Habay’s residence following an investigation.
Habay, who is a registered sex offender, was found in possession of one video of child pornography and two photos of child pornography, court records show.
The search warrant was conducted on May 26 with the assistance of Lake County State’s Attorney investigators and canine Browser.
The evidence that they recovered led to the arrest warrant, police said.
Habay was arrested on Tuesday without incident and transported to the Lake County Jail where he was ordered held on a $750,000 bond.
In 2015, Habay was found guilty of possessing child pornography of children under the age of 13 and had to register as a sex offender.
A status of attorney hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
