Fire officials say that fireworks are believed to have caused a multiple-acre field fire at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake Saturday evening.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Crystal Lake Park District Police Department responded around 9:42 p.m. Saturday to Lippold Park, 1051 Route 176 in Crystal Lake.
Crystal Lake Fire Chief Paul DeRaedt told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that firefighters arrived to find three acres on fire at the park.
The fire had natural fire breaks โ the walking paths โ around the area that contained the fire, DeRaedt said.
The fire was able to burn itself out and there was no damage to any structures in the area.
DeRaedt said the fire appeared to have been started by fireworks. No injuries were reported.
A group of teens reportedly lit the fireworks that caused the fire and then fled the scene, according to fire department radio traffic from the incident.
The fire remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Crystal Lake Park District Police Department.
