The coroner’s office has identified a 27-year-old man killed after his car crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a pickup truck in Spring Grove Monday morning.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy was conducted on Wednesday on Antonio Colon, 27, of Algonquin.

The Spring Grove Fire Protection District and Spring Grove Police Department responded around 11:05 a.m. Monday to 8107 Wilmot Road for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Firefighters arrived to find two vehicles, a blue Pontiac G6 and a black Ford pickup truck, in the roadway with heavy damage.

One of the drivers was trapped in their vehicle and firefighters had to extricate them.

A LifeNet medical helicopter landed at Spring Grove Horse Fair Park, 8105 Blivin Street.

An ambulance transported Colon and the flight crew assisted paramedics in the ambulance. Colon, who sustained severe injuries, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the Ford sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles, Niedzwiecki said.

The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) is assisting the Spring Grove Police Department in the investigation.

A preliminary investigation shows the Colon was traveling northbound in his Pontiac when he veered into the southbound lane for an unknown reason and struck the Ford head-on, Niedzwiecki said.

Wilmot Road was closed for approximately five hours Monday while crash investigators conducted their investigation. No citations have been issued.
