Police say a warrant has been issued for a Waukegan man who was confronted by a resident as he attempted to burglarize vehicles in a Cary neighborhood last week.

Jaward H. Hakeem, 45, of the 0-100 block of South Park Avenue in Waukegan, was charged with criminal trespass to vehicles, according to court records.

The Cary Police Department responded in the early morning hours on June 3 to the 0-100 block of Lloyd Street in Cary for a vehicle burglary.

The homeowner had interrupted a subject, later identified as Hakeem, trespassing in his vehicle, according to Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff.

Officers met with the victim and obtained a description of the offender, who was described as a male Black with facial hair and carrying a messenger bag.

Officers located a subject matching the description of the offender provided by the victim a short time later.

The victim was brought to the scene but “was not absolutely sure” that the subject detained was the offender, Naydenoff said. Police obtained the subject’s identification and released him.

Police later obtained video doorbell footage from a resident in the 100 block of Lloyd Street which “definitively” showed the offender attempting to enter several additional vehicles in the area.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Hakeem. The arrest warrant has not been served and remains active.
