A woman was flown to the hospital by helicopter after a rollover crash near Richmond left her trapped in her vehicle and seriously injured, police said.
The Richmond Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:18 p.m. Friday to the 7800 block of East Tryon Grove Road in unincorporated Richmond.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Creighton said deputies were called to a single-vehicle rollover crash.
Deputies located a white 2020 Ford Ranger that had been traveling westbound when it left the roadway and rolled over into the trees.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 30-year-old Harvard woman, was trapped inside the Ford, which was heavily damaged.
Firefighters from multiple fire departments, including Hebron, McHenry, Richmond, Spring Grove and Wonder Lake, responded to the scene to assist in extricating the woman from the vehicle, Creighton said.
One of Mercyhealth’s emergency field vehicles — called MD-1 — was called to the scene to assist with treating the woman.
MD-1 vehicles are staffed by residency-trained emergency medicine physicians and they can help paramedics stabilize a patient before they are transported to the hospital from a scene.
A Mercyhealth React medical helicopter landed nearby and flew the woman to Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside in Rockford with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The woman was wearing her seatbelt and the airbags deployed, Creighton said, adding that the crash remains under investigation.
