Police say a North Chicago man was found shot and killed in his vehicle after it had crashed into a building in Waukegan early Sunday morning.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 4:45 a.m. Sunday to the 1600 block of 11th Street for a 911 call of shots fired.
Officers arrived and located a vehicle that had crashed into a building, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Joe Florip.
A victim was found slumped over the steering wheel with an apparent gunshot wound, Florip said.
The victim, identified as a North Chicago man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Waukegan Police Department Criminal Investigations Division (CID) was called to investigate due to the severity.
The name of the victim will be released once the Lake County Coroner’s Office completes an autopsy and has properly contacted the family.
Florip said the case is open and active and additional details will be released once available.
No one is in custody and no suspect information was available to be released, Florip said.
