Police say a woman has been charged with drunk driving after she rolled her truck over and was left seriously injured Friday evening near Richmond.

The Richmond Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:18 p.m. Friday to the 7800 block of East Tryon Grove Road in unincorporated Richmond.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Creighton said deputies were called to a single-vehicle rollover crash.

Deputies located a white 2020 Ford Ranger that had been traveling westbound when it left the roadway and rolled over into the trees.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as Melina Godinez-Garcia, 30, of Harvard, was trapped inside the Ford, which was heavily damaged.

Firefighters from multiple fire departments, including Hebron, McHenry, Richmond, Spring Grove and Wonder Lake, responded to the scene to assist in extricating Godinez-Garcia from the vehicle, Creighton said.

One of Mercyhealth’s emergency field vehicles — called MD-1 — was called to the scene to assist with treating the woman.

MD-1 vehicles are staffed by residency-trained emergency medicine physicians and they can help paramedics stabilize a patient before they are transported to the hospital from a scene.

A Mercyhealth React medical helicopter landed nearby and flew Godinez-Garcia to Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside in Rockford with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Godinez-Garcia was issued citations for driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage and driving without insurance.

Godinez-Garcia was wearing her seatbelt and the airbags deployed, Creighton said.
