Construction has started on a $105 million Mercyhealth hospital in Crystal Lake that will include a 24/7 emergency room, the company announced.
Mercyhealth hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking on Wednesday for its new multi-specialty clinic and hospital, which will be located near Route 31 and Three Oaks Road in Crystal Lake.
The $105 million facility will have private inpatient and intensive care suites, surgery suites, emergency care and diagnostic services, as well primary and specialty care physician offices.
“This project has been a long, 25-year journey as we persisted in our efforts to bring emergency care and hospital services to the Crystal Lake community for the first time ever,” said Javon R. Bea, President and CEO of Mercyhealth.
“We have been privileged to provide high-quality physician and outpatient care to area residents for many years, and we are excited to take our services to the next level with this new multi-specialty clinic and hospital. Most importantly, we are excited to give Crystal Lake residents access to emergency services, which have been severely lacking in Crystal Lake for decades,” Bea said.
The Crystal Lake emergency department will be staffed 24/7 with board-certified emergency physicians that will be capable of treating a full range of conditions from chest pain and heart issues to head injuries, broken bones, abdominal pain, lacerations, trouble breathing and more.
Those onsite for the ceremonial groundbreaking on Wednesday included Mercyhealth executive staff, State Senator Craig Wilcox, Crystal lake Mayor Haig Haleblian, Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bill Eich, and McHenry County Associate Medical Director Dr. Amarish Davé.
Mercyhealth said the new facility will provide patients with an integrated, coordinated and convenient health care experience, especially for elderly patients who have to travel to different locations to see various physicians.
The company also said the facility will have a significant economic impact on the Crystal Lake area by creating 350 new jobs in construction and trades while the facility is being built.
There will also be 134 permanent health care jobs, including physician providers, nursing, dietary, housekeeping and professional support services.
The anticipated opening date of Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center – Crystal Lake is summer of 2023.
