Two people were transported to the hospital after a large tree fell onto Route 41 in Lake Bluff and struck multiple vehicles Monday morning, officials said.

The Lake Bluff Fire and Rescue Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 8:56 a.m. Monday to Route 41 near Route 176.

Fire crews arrived to find a large tree that fell in the roadway on southbound Route 41 just north of Route 176 entrance.

The fire department said the tree struck multiple vehicles and crews were on the scene for several hours.

Two people were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the fire department said.

All lanes of Route 41 southbound were shut down until around 10 a.m. when one southbound was reopened, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Traffic in the northbound lanes was also impacted, the Lake Bluff Police Department said.

As of Monday afternoon, all lanes were reopened and traffic was flowing without delays.
