Police are searching for a gunman that opened fire on a 20-year-old man sitting in his car in Beach Park, leaving the man injured early Thursday morning.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Beach Park Fire Department responded around 2:30 a.m. Thursday to the 10100 block of West Waldo Avenue in Beach Park for a report of a shooting.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found a 20-year-old man of Beach Park with a gunshot wound to his arm.

He was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli.

Preliminary information shows the man was sitting in his vehicle in front of his home, Covelli said.

Someone approached the victim’s vehicle and fired several shots into the vehicle. The shooter then fled.

No one else besides the 20-year-old man was injured or struck by the gunfire. Lake County sheriff’s detectives responded and continue to investigate.
